Plage de Sorlock, 44420 Mesquer
The Plage de Sorlock is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful and versatile beaches in the municipality of Mesquer-Quimiac. Located in the north of the charming seaside resort, this expansive, golden fine sand beach stretches picturesquely between the historic Pointe de Merquel headland and the Traict de Mesquer tidal arm. It is a vibrant spot that perfectly combines a pristine Breton natural backdrop with first-class comfort for all ages.
A Paradise for Families and Water Sports Enthusiasts
The southern and central parts of the beach are a true paradise for families. The fine sand slopes gently into the calm water, making the bay particularly safe for young swimmers. In contrast to the wild neighboring coves, comfort is a top priority here: during the summer months of July and August, a lifeguard station (SNSM) ensures everyone’s safety. Additionally, the traditional beach club Les Mouettes delights children in the summer with trampolines and sandcastle competitions, while a cozy beach bistro (Le Petit Caboulo) overlooking the sea invites you to enjoy mussels and fries.
As you move further north along the beach, the scenery changes dramatically. The sandy expanse narrows and gives way to rugged, striking rock formations that create small, hidden micro-coves. These are excellent for escaping the crowds. At the same time, thanks to a designated navigation channel, this zone is the perfect starting point for water sports enthusiasts such as windsurfers, stand-up paddlers, and kayakers.
Accessible Comfort in the Natural Park
As part of the Brière Regional Natural Park, the area surrounding the beach is strictly protected from overdevelopment—only a few quaint villas sit atop the dunes. Despite this protected authenticity, the Plage de Sorlock is highly accessible. A total of six flat beach entrances make getting to the sea straightforward. Thanks to these well-developed access pathways, the beach offers excellent accessibility for everyone.
Directly behind the dunes, free car and bicycle parking is available, along with a restroom block containing showers and toilets. If you want to stretch your legs after sunbathing, you can join the 12-kilometer Pointe de Merquel circular hiking trail right from the beach, which leads along the wild cliffs and past the glittering salt marshes.
