Rue des Cordiers, 44490 Le Croisic
On the wild peninsula of Le Croisic, a historic port town designated as a “Petite Cité de Caractère,” maritime heritage blends charmingly with the Breton way of life. The weekly market of Le Croisic is well-known far beyond the town borders. It extends around the historic Place Dinan and into the beautiful, historic 19th-century market halls, whose exposed wooden framework gives the market a very special flair.
At the center of the culinary action are—as you would expect—the riches of the sea. At the fish stalls in the market hall, visitors will find an impressive variety of freshly caught fish, scallops, crabs, and of course, the famous mussels and oysters of the region. This selection is complemented by the agricultural diversity of the Guérande peninsula: freshly harvested fruits and vegetables, goat cheese, homemade terrines, and traditional Breton baked goods.
The market activity adapts flexibly to the seasons and enlivens the historic old town all year round:
-
- The year-round market: Every Thursday and Saturday morning from around 8:00 AM to 1:00 PM, vendors in the historic halls open their stalls for fresh food. On Thursdays, the market also expands as a large open-air market onto Place Dinan, where clothing, leather goods, jewelry, and household items are additionally offered.
- The summer additional market: In the tourist months of July and August, the schedule is expanded. The market hall then opens additionally every Tuesday morning for the sale of fresh produce.
- Evening market at the harbor: During the summer season, the quays of Port Ciguet regularly transform on Monday evenings into a lively strip featuring regional handicrafts, local products, and street art as part of the seasonal festivities.
A visit to the Le Croisic market is ideally combined with a stroll along the quays, past the magnificent old shipowners’ houses, or a tour to the impressive granite cliffs of the wild coast.
