Place du Marché, 44420 La Turballe
Right next to the largest fishing port in the Loire-Atlantique region, you can feel the deep connection to the sea at every turn. The market of La Turballe, located at Espace Garlahy on Rue du Maréchal Juin, perfectly reflects this vibrant maritime tradition. It is the ideal place to discover the treasures of the Atlantic and the specialties of Breton agriculture in an authentic, down-to-earth atmosphere.
The heart of the market is the covered market hall (“Les Halles”), which is complemented by a lively outdoor area. Here, local fishermen, oyster farmers, and producers offer a premium selection: freshly caught fish such as sardines and anchovies – for which La Turballe is famous –, fine seafood, as well as freshly harvested vegetables, regional cheese, honey, and poultry straight from the farm. The scent of fresh Breton crêpes and regional baked goods in the alleys makes the stroll a truly culinary experience.
The market accompanies life in the port city all year round and expands during the summer:
- The year-round weekly market: Every Wednesday and Saturday morning from 8:00 AM to 1:00 PM, vendors offer their fresh products under the halls and in the outdoor area.
- The summer Sunday market: In the lively months of the selection is expanded by an additional market on Sunday mornings – perfect for a relaxed weekend outing.
- The summer craft market: Also in July and August, the Quai Saint-Pierre transforms into a maritime promenade every Wednesday evening from 6:00 PM to 11:00 PM. Alongside handmade art, jewelry, and regional products, street art and concerts create a festive atmosphere right by the harbor basin.
A visit to the market in La Turballe pairs wonderfully with a walk along the quays, watching the fishing boats come in, or a beach day at the expansive natural shores.
